Health Care Reform: Is Insurance The Only Answer?
http://www.thesunmagazine.org/issues/407/who_will_heal_the_healers
With all the talk of health care reform, the article written in this months Sun Magazine offers a little different perspective.
Sometimes we forget that insurance is a business. In business to make money. In business to make a profit. If business doesn’t make a profit, that business ceases to exist. I, for one, hope that all the insurance companies I deal with do actually make a profit and stay in business. I WANT them available to help me protect my assets in the case of extreme emergency that I am unable to plan for.
Still, business, for profit, not for profit, group care, government option… whatever buzz words are out there, articles like the one linked above are good reminders that we are all in this life together and that we can help each other out as individuals. We can do that in our personal lives and in the work place. There ARE people willing to help.
An Incredible Video Reminder That We Can Do!

WOW, sometimes when we feel like complaining about how difficult our life is, or how much everything cost, or how we just can’t get “it” done without help, we just forget for a time to look around and see how great life really is.
This video is encouraging and a great reminder that we truly can do what we set our minds to.
Certainly help is needed from time to time, and aren’t we so grateful for the people around us who are willing to help. (Sales pitch here…) At Florida Insurance Concepts, we are here to help you reach your goals. Whether protecting your assets with insurance, or ensuring that your loved ones will be financially safe if something were to happen to you, or even helping your build your assets with annuities. Of course, you have many reasons to be grateful each morning. And on those mornings you forget, perhaps you will remember this video.
A Sad But True Story
A sad, but true story, from personal experience. Once upon a time there was a happy, young family with a mommy and daddy and two young children. Life was going along smoothly and the family was in the midst of building a new home. Everything seemed to be taken care of. The insurance agent had helped them to insure their home, their cars, and was hoping to sell them a life insurance policy. Time went by, and the insurance agent continued to inform them about the benefits of a life insurance policy, however was not very pushy about it seeing as they were such a young and healthy family. The insurance agent was hesitant about selling life insurance because it is such a hard topic to address; facing our own mortality is a tough one. Time went by until one day the insurance agent received a call from the distraught mommy/wife. She called wanting to find out about the life insurance policy. Sadly, the daddy had literally fallen into the foundation and was injured and subsequently passed away. No policy had been purchased. The agent felt horrible, and never viewed the selling of life insurance the same way. From that point on, the agent learned that he could actually be helping families. So sad.
This true story happened about 15 years ago. It isn’t posted as a scare tactic to incent people to purchase life insurance, rather it is a reminder to us at Florida Insurance Concepts to really get to know our clients, and their needs, and do our best to be sure that all they hold precious is covered in the best way they can be.
The Motley Fool
Here is what The Motley Fool says about insurance…
“There are few financial topics more important (and, sadly, more mundane) than insurance. No matter how diligently you build your financial empire, failure to purchase adequate insurance can put you in a desperate hole in a heartbeat. On the other side of the coin, few things will attack your investment returns more insidiously than paying too much for insurance or, worse, paying for insurance you don’t need.
So, you may be thinking now, “I don’t need insurance.” To that we say: Most likely you do. If you own things that will be very hard to replace without facing severe financial hardship, these things ought to be insured. In general, think of insurance as “hardship avoidance,” not “convenience” or “hitting the jackpot.”
On the one hand, insurance has all the lure of a state lottery. Individual tickets don’t cost much (relatively speaking), and if your number comes up, hey, you get the big check! Trust us, though. You don’t want this check.
Before you actually get the check, you’ll have to complete your end of the bargain. No biggie. You just have to get some stuff stolen from your home, or damage your car, or become disabled, or die.
Given this backdrop, it’s no wonder that few people list insurance among their hobbies, even in a country that lays down more than $640 billion in legal wagers each year.
Fun or no fun, however, insurance is one finance topic that you don’t want to overlook. Contrary to some common perceptions, insurance is not a rip-off. For most people, it is a necessary and valuable financial service.
Whatever you do, don’t lose your insurance bets by skipping premium payments. Since insurance has little impact on daily life, it’s easy to overlook these payments. If you really need the insurance, these premiums should fall behind only food and shelter in your list of priorities, and certainly ahead of investing.”
While in some ways we can agree that insurance isn’t the most exciting of topics, it is our goal to be here to help you so that insurance isn’t something you even need to think about. But when you do, we hope you will come to this blog to get some interesting little tid bits of information and perhaps from time to time you will even get some laughs.
